Romanian Community In Malta Crowdfunds To Send Home Young Tourist Announced Clinically Dead
The 23-year-old Romanian suffered a stroke while on holiday
A 23 year old Romanian man who suffered a stroke while on holiday with his girlfriend in Malta last week was announced clinically dead after spending five days in Mater Dei's Intensive Care Unit.
Now, the Romanian community living in Malta have gathered together to help the young man's family raise enough money to return him to his home country. After contacting the Romanian Consulate in Catania, relatives of the young man found out that repatriation would require almost €3,500.
Mihai Leonti, a young Romanian man who lives in Malta, started the campaign online with a post last Wednesday on a Facebook group for Malta's Romanian community, which has over 2,500 members.
"His girlfriend's mother wanted to tell us that they were a perfect couple and thanks us for everything we're doing with them," Leonti told the Facebook group. He also went on to explain how various people have already reached out to help the family in other ways, from a kind man who is ready to pay for the family's flight tickets back to Romania, to the family that offered them accommodation during these hard times.
If you'd like more information on how you can help, check out Leonti's full poston what you can do to help the young man's family.
